National Park and Recreation Month

Need ideas to get active in your parks? Download CANFIT’s Physical Activity Pyramid

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. Each July, parks across the country promote outdoor physical activities and pull together community volunteers to make their outdoor space a better place for all. Due to the recession this year, many national parks are even offering free admission throughout the summer.

Going to the Park can:
• Reduce Stress
• Improve Heart Health
• Help with Weight Loss
• Improve your Mood

Playing at parks also helps children build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, improve self-esteem, and avoid at-risk behavior such as drug use and gang involvement.

Affordable, healthy food and safe & accessible areas for physical activity are scarce in many places.

All youth deserve to grow up in places that support being healthy.

CANFIT strives to create environments that foster participation by all, including safe parks and recreation for youth to get active. MO Project is a media contest and movement that hears it directly from youth on how to make a difference in their community.
